According to Pioneer.com when VCR's became popular Pioneer chose not to produce them, instead focusing on LaserDisc, which lead to a leadership role in developing DVD and Blu-ray technologies.  Pioneer offers Blu-ray/DVD players, Home Theater Systems, Audio Components, Speakers, A/V receivers and Docks for iPods/iPhones.
