What To Do When You Have An Alarm

Now that you have a new Silent Guard security system, you probably want to know exactly what to expect when you set it off the first time. Below we have listed the standard procedures. The most important thing to remember is not to panic! Our dispatchers are trained to handle your alarm efficiently and professionally. They will be able to guide you through the alarm once they are in contact with you.

Accidental Alarm

If you set the alarm off accidentally disarm the system using your keypad or wireless remote. DO NOT call our office to tell us of the false alarm. This ties up the phone line and does not allow dispatch to get through to you to verify your alarm. When a signal is received, the premise number on file will be called to verify the alarm. The dispatcher will identify themselves and ask if all is OK. Inform them of the accidental alarm and tell them to disregard. You will be asked for your password. If the correct password is given the alarm will be cancelled. If an incorrect password is given, the dispatcher will say Thank You and hang up. At that time 911 will be notified as well as your contacts on your member sheet.

Actual Alarm

Dispatch will contact the premise if no one answers; we dispatch 911 and call your contacts.  If the improper password is given, the dispatcher will say Thank You and notify the authorities of the alarm. They will also notify the contacts in your file.

REMEMBER:   Test your system at least monthly

 **Ways to test your alarm:

Let your system sound for at least 15 seconds before disarming the system. Then follow the Accidental Alarm procedure. You do not have to notify anyone prior to testing your system. As long as they call you, there is nothing to worry about. If no one contacts you, call our office and speak to the Service Department.

OR

You will be asked for your name and password before they will activate the test mode.  Once the system is placed in “Test”, activate the alarm and let it sound for at least 15 seconds before you disarm the system. Call dispatch again to verify the signal. If all is OK, inform dispatcher that you would like system taken out of test. If a signal wasn’t received, notify our office and speak to the Service Department.

 Yard Signs Prevent Crime!

According to the latest FBI report, there is one property crime committed every 3 seconds. But the FBI report also tells us that something can be done about it—Use your yard sign to prevent crime! Homes with security systems are 10 times less likely to be broken into than homes with no visible sign of protection. Police chiefs throughout the country say that a home with a security system provides significant deterrent to intruders. When a potential burglar or vandalizing teenagers see that you have a security yard sign, they often pass over your home or business and move to another,  The key to effectiveness of a yard sign depends on its placement. The sign should be in a lighted area and clearly visible. A great place to place your sign is by your mailbox. If you need a new Silent Guard yard sign or window stickers, call us and let us know.
